As society develops, people's living needs are increasingly improved, especially the need for health care. Therefore, Pharmacy is always considered an up-and-coming and attractive industry for many students and parents.
Pharmacy College
With a shorter training time than university, lower tuition fees, and especially the opportunity to enter the labor market early, many candidates have proactively chosen to study at the College of Pharmacy. Dai Viet Saigon College, one of the prestigious training institutions in the Ho Chi Minh City area, said that every year, the school recruits enough students for Pharmacy very early. This is also the major with the highest rate of graduates having jobs at the school, about 95%, providing a reassuring outlook for the future. Moreover, the college provides extensive practical experience and internship opportunities, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their future careers.
What knowledge and skills will students studying Pharmacy at the college level be equipped with?
Dr. Pham Minh Nhut - Head of Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Dai Viet Saigon College.
Talking with reporters of Vietnam Education Electronic Magazine, Dr. Pham Minh Nhut - Head of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy at Dai Viet Saigon College, said that the demand for pharmaceutical services and products is increasing sharply due to the aging population and the increasing level of health care of the people. In addition, the government has investment policies and supports the development of the pharmaceutical industry to meet this demand.
"With the positive development prospects of the Pharmacy industry, the career opportunities for Pharmacy college graduates are very bright. They will become pharmacists who play a key role in the community health care system," said Mr. Nhut.
Sharing more about the training program, Mr. Nhut said that students studying Pharmacy at the college level will be equipped with in-depth knowledge and skills about drugs, ingredients, effects, and contraindications; how to preserve, supply, and distribute pharmaceutical products; consulting and instructing patients on the safe and effective use of drugs; management and quality control of drugs and pharmaceutical services; and more.
Mr. Pham Minh Nhut commented that with this knowledge and skills, graduates of the College of Pharmacy can fully meet the job requirements at medical facilities, pharmacies, hospitals, health stations, pharmaceutical companies, etc.
In addition, students who choose to study at the College of Pharmacy also have many advantages: they can save more training time than the university system (2.5 years), lower tuition costs, and, after graduation, quickly enter the labor market.
Furthermore, Pharmacy college students still have the opportunity to transfer to university if they want to improve their professional knowledge in the future. This flexibility in career development path empowers students to shape their future according to their aspirations and goals.
Although it is a potential field of study, many students and parents hesitate because they think studying Pharmacy is difficult. Sharing with candidates, Mr. Nhut admitted that studying Pharmacy requires much effort and passion for this field. The curriculum includes many scientific subjects such as chemistry, biology, pharmacology, medicinal herbs, etc. However, with diligence, perseverance, analytical thinking, and enthusiastic support from teachers, the Dean believes that students can completely overcome these challenges.
In addition, for candidates who want to pursue Pharmacy, Mr. Pham Minh Nhut guides students in building a solid foundation of knowledge in basic subjects such as chemistry and biology. Students actively participate in practical activities and experiments to practice skills. At the same time, they proactively learn and exchange with lecturers and other students to broaden their knowledge. In addition, learners must practice professional ethics, have a sense of responsibility, and have a careful personality.
"With preparation and active efforts, you can completely overcome challenges and become good Pharmacists and Physicians, contributing to the development of the health sector," Mr. Pham Minh Nhut told candidates.
Learning goes hand in hand with practice.
According to Dr. Pham Minh Nhut, the critical issue in Pharmacist training today is ensuring that students have solid professional knowledge, can apply flexibly, and have good communication, consulting, and teamwork skills. These are increasingly high requirements from employers.
To meet this need, Dai Viet Saigon College has implemented many solutions in the training program, such as increasing practice and internship at medical facilities and pharmaceutical enterprises and helping students access the natural working environment. They are cooperating with pharmaceutical enterprises to design suitable training programs while creating internship and work opportunities for students after graduation and, at the same time, encouraging and creating conditions for students to participate in competitions and professional seminars to improve their knowledge, skills, and spirit of learning and creativity. These efforts are part of our commitment to ensuring that our students are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the labor market," said the Dean.
"With these efforts, we believe that Dai Viet Saigon College's pharmacy students will be fully equipped with knowledge and skills and well prepared to meet labor market requirements. Our commitment to your success is unwavering," said the Dean, instilling confidence and security in potential students and parents.
With a vast network of business connections, Dai Viet Saigon College pharmacy students can intern at pharmaceutical enterprises very early.
As one of the outstanding alums of Dai Viet Saigon College, Mr. Pham Minh Tu (class of 2020-2023), currently working at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital (Ho et al.), said that the training program at Dai Viet Saigon College has equipped him with core knowledge and skills in Pharmacology, Medicinal Materials, Clinical Pharmacist, etc. In addition, the experience from participating in practical activities and internships throughout the study process has helped him accumulate much practical experience and be well-prepared for his current job at the hospital.
"The current source of Pharmacists is very popular with medical facilities and hospitals. Therefore, young people passionate about Pharmacy should seize this opportunity, constantly learn and accumulate experience to become talented Pharmacists", former student Pham Minh Tu sent a message to the candidates.
It is known that in 2024, Dai Viet Sai Gon College will enroll students by considering transcripts, with 2 methods:
They first considered transcripts based on the average score of three subjects in grade 12. The threshold requires candidates to have an average score of 15.5 points or higher in grade 12 of the three subjects in the combination used for admission.
Second, transcripts should be considered based on the average score of three semesters. The school stipulates that candidates who achieve 6.0 or higher in any semester of grades 10, 11, or 12 will have the opportunity to study at the school. Note that candidates need good academic performance or higher for health majors.

Does studying Pharmacy only allow you to work at pharmacies after graduation?
According to Mr. Pham Minh Nhut, many candidates still think that after studying Pharmacy, they will only work at pharmacies. However, this is only a tiny part of the career opportunities that the pharmacy industry brings.
The Pharmacy industry is not simply about providing and selling drugs. A pharmacist's primary role is to ensure the safe and effective use of drugs, contributing to protecting people's health.
College graduates of Pharmacy can take on positions such as:
1. Pharmacist at pharmacies, hospitals, and medical stations: Responsible for supplying, preserving, and dispensing drugs; advising patients on safe and effective use of drugs.
2. Quality control specialist at pharmaceutical companies: Supervising and checking the quality of pharmaceutical products.
3. Sales and marketing staff at pharmaceutical companies: Introducing and promoting pharmaceutical products to doctors and pharmacies.
4. Managers at medical facilities and state pharmaceutical management agencies: Participating in pharmaceutical management and policy making.
Regarding income, according to statistics, the average salary of a college pharmacist in Vietnam ranges from 8 to 15 million VND/month, depending on the job position, region, and experience.
